How to Backup EPOS Data

How to Backup EPOS Data

This tutorial will show you how to backup and move your inventory data to another copy of the Ebmbook EPOS Software.

  • Settings: First access the Settings screen by clicking the icon on the top left of the screen.

Next, click the Backup Your Data section of the Settings screen (circled in red):

  • Exporting EPOS data: In the Export or Backup Data screen, the system will ask you to select a machine or device to export your data to. To do this, click the dark blue button entitled ‘Select or Change Directory‘ (circled in red):

The system will present a Select Folder window. Browse where you want to export your data to, for example, a USB or another folder within the computer. Once you’ve decided on a location. Click the ‘Select Folder‘ button (circled in red):

Once you’ve selected the right folder or location, you’ll notice the ‘Output Directory Path‘ will feature the name of the directory to export to. In this case, it’s a USB external storage device, named ‘(E:)‘. Click the red ‘Start Export‘ button (circled in red) to begin the exporting process:

Now, the software will process the data backup and move them into the new location.

The system will disable a green message at the top of the screen (‘Data exported successfully.‘) to indicate the process was successful.

The data has been successfully exported to the right location. You’ll notice two sub-folders, ‘data‘ and ‘media‘ (circled in red below). The data sub-folder contains the data of the system, i.e. Products, Categories, Customers, etc. in spreadsheet format. They are editable in spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel. The media sub-folder contains the photos you’ve uploaded onto Ebmbook EPOS for your products.

Pictured below is the ‘data‘ sub-folder. You can edit these outside of the Ebmbook EPOS, but warning: some edits outside of the Ebmbook EPOS would affect the data within the system (see the technical info after this tutorial).

The other sub-folder, media, is where you’ll find all your photos or images for products in the EPOS.

A reminder: This tutorial is written with the notion that you’re accessing the Ebmbook software through a PC or laptop. If you are using a touchscreen terminal, tablet or smartphone, the same directions apply but with your finger instead of the mouse.
